Schwartz Media and Google announce digital transformation partnership

May 23, 2025

Schwartz Media and Google today announce a new phase in their ongoing partnership, with a comprehensive digital transformation initiative focusing on optimising the paywall of The Saturday Paper.

The digital transformation project, which started earlier this month, aims to optimise paywall flow and create a seamless registration state for users on The Saturday Paper website. The registration flow will emphasise ease of use and feature sign-in with Google as a subscription offer to reduce friction.

The project is an ongoing commitment by Schwartz Media to enhance audience engagement, drive conversions, increase revenue and simplify the subscription process across its publications.

Erik Jensen, editor-in-chief and CEO of Schwartz Media, said: “This is probably the most significant change we’ve made to the way we engage with potential subscribers. Google’s support has made a huge difference and is a key part of how we are approaching reader revenue.”

Nic Hopkins, Google’s head of AUNZ news partnerships, said: “We're delighted to be working with Schwartz Media on its digital transformation, especially when it comes to refining The Saturday Paper's paywall experience. Strong reader revenue models allow publishers like Schwartz to invest in the quality journalism their audiences value most and to create a foundation for long-term success."
