Scott Mitchell joins No. 1 news podcast in Australia
Schwartz Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Mitchell as editor of 7am.
On Wednesday April 6, 2022, Scott Mitchell joined the dynamic team behind Schwartz Media’s popular daily news podcast, 7am.
Scott Mitchell says, “It's so special coming into a job knowing that so many people take that moment to spend with us – just before they start their day or whenever they get a chance.”
He continues: “The team has built something that's truly special and as a listener you know that whether the show is tackling the biggest news of the day or highlighting an issue that isn't getting enough attention, it is going to do so with warmth, compassion and intelligence.”
Launched in 2019 immediately following the federal election, 7am’s first episodes enabled listeners to digest and make sense of the election results. Scott arrives at an important time for the successful podcast as the country heads into another hotly anticipated election period. Providing sharp interviews and in-depth analysis, 7am is well positioned to provide Australian listeners with essential insights into the big stories of the day at a critical time for the country.
“I know I won’t get much time to settle in, with an election right around the corner, but that's also an exciting challenge. I can't wait to tell amazing stories with this team and make sure we keep bringing our listeners the best journalism in Australia,” he says.
Scott has a clear view of how to build on the success of 7am, to ensure that it remains the No. 1 news podcast in the country.
Host Ruby Jones says, “I'm looking forward to working with Scott to continue to grow 7am's reach and impact. I know he has some great ideas for the show, and with an election just around the corner, there is no better time to get more ambitious in our interviews and storytelling.
“7am has gone from strength to strength in the past few years, and with Scott joining the team our success will no doubt continue.”
Erik Jensen, Schwartz Media’s editor-in-chief, says, "Scott is a first-class storyteller. He has a knack for innovation and format and a keen ear for narrative. I can't wait to see what he does with the kind of essential, gripping journalism that makes 7am work every day."
Scott comes to 7am from the ABC, where he was digital lead on audio current affairs. His credentials also include work as a journalist at Four Corners, Hungry Beast, and conceiving and launching the ABC’s You Can't Ask That.
